Maia was born in Paris to Czechoslovakian parents. She has graduated from the worlds most prestigious film and art schools; FAMU in Prague, The Royal Art Academy in Copenhagen, and a Masters in Film Directing at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) in 2005.

She has directed over a dozen award winning short films and documentaries, a one-hour Tele-movie, and several TV commercials, online digital content, and music videos.

Maia is known for her unique approach and process to every project. Being a multi skilled and hands on film maker, Maia is equally comfortable directing, shooting and editing, and loves pushing visual and sonic boundaries. Her work is cinematic, imaginative, dream like and intimate, always striving to deeply connect to the heart.

Maia’s short films have had international success, screening at over thirty esteemed international film festivals including Sydney, Bermuda, Brooklyn, Palm Springs, Flickerfest, Brussels, Edmonton and recently her film ‘ Loveproof ’ was invited to screen at Cannes. In 2006 she won the Outstanding Film Maker Award at HATCHFEST USA after being chosen as one of ten ground breaking young filmmakers from around the world.

In 2010 Maia was the winner of the MTV one80 project with the trailer ‘The Sellers’.

‘The Sellers’ was completed as a one-hour TV movie produced by MTV and Goalpost Pictures, it was released on MTV Networks Australia in March 2011.

She has just completed a 4 month shoot throughout Spain on 8 Million Steps as director, cinematographer and editor. Maia is now based between London and Barcelona, she is represented by Casarotto in London for film and TV work and currently has several projects in late development and production: Wake With Me – a feature film,8 Million Steps – a documentary series, The Adventures of Dr Egg – a children’s trans media project and Love Hotel – a TV Series and feature film.
