The workshop is designed for cinematographers, filmmakers, camera assistants and other cinema professionals who wish to gain insight into the world of 3D stereography. It provides you with a very unique opportunity to gain first hand stereography experience under Juan’s expert guidance.

What’s on offer

The workshop is fast, intensive and absorbing. Our key goal is to give students the tools, the mindset and the support they need to work in the real world. By the end of the workshop, students will have evolved professionally, worked with an industry leader, have shot 3D footage for their showreel and have professional stereography experience.

Cinematographer and Stereographer Juan A. Fernandez leads this 2 day workshop in the art of 3D Stereography. The theory and practice of 3D cinematography are examined in depth, so as to become familiar with the process from preproduction consideration to shooting to postproduction. The course includes lectures, demonstrations and practical exercises –including the use of rigs designed by Juan.

About the instructor?

Juan A. Fernandez, AEC  has worked in the film industry in Los Angeles and throughout Spain, including several years at Panavision Hollywood. A designer of specialty film equipment, his area of expertise includes high speed, underwater, VFX and stereoscopic cinematography, as well as teaching cinema (UCLA Extension, University Pompeu Fabra, ESCAC). He’s shot many feature films, including The Forsaken (Sitges International Film Festival 2015), television programs and advertising campaigns. He’s also designed the rig for and shot Spain’s first 3D stereoscopic music video for Spanish artist Pastora, part of Spain’s first 3D Imax film “Viaje Magico a Africa, the first live broadcast in 3D of an opera with the New York Met at the Lyceo in Barcelona, and much more.

  • You will learn the pros and cons of each different type of 3D rig.
  • You will learn the mathematical calculations for stereography and how to apply them.

  • You will get to explore the use of different 3D rigs and discover when to use which type of rig, why they complement each other.
  • You will shoot 3D tests, and explore 3D Previz.
  • You will explore programs for 3D postproduction.
  • You will participate in a screening of material shot in 3D.
