Omar is truly a “Renaissance” man

Born in Mexico City and an afilm alumnus Omar is a published writer, director and cinematographer. At a young age he left his native Mexico for the US where he eventually received both a B.A. (Schreiner University) and M.A. (University of Texas) in English and worked both as a translator and teacher at both institutions.

Soon after, his love for cinema became apparent and moved to Spain where he would receive another B.A. and M.A. in filmmaking. His writing credits include a novel, 2 plays a short story collection and 3 screenplays. His filmmaking career began as a PA on several feature films and commercials and a gaffer on the indie thriller Hombre Cero.

As a filmmaker, he has directed several short films, corporate videos, promos and co-directed afilm’s feature film Leaving Hotel Romantic, that premiered at the 2013 SItges International Film Festival. Two of his promos have been awarded top prizes by the Ministry of Education as part of the International Excellence Campus Campaign. As a cinematographer he has lensed commercials, documentaries, corporate films, a dozen short films and is currently working on the web series Friki Planet, as well as acting as the in-house cinematographer for the production house at the University of Barcelona.

As a member of the afilm family, Omar has taken several roles throughout the years where he has combined his role as a regular instructor with the duties of Assistant Director, 2nd Unit Director, Associate Producer and most recently, Project Coordinator.
