SUPER 16MM - PRODUCTION WORKSHOP

This 6 day workshop is designed to examine the workflow involved in shooting 16mm and Super 16mm negative, for a finished film or television product (35mm or HD).

The course is designed for documentary filmmakers, tv movie and advertising producers, camera department personnel, as well as independent filmmakers in general.

16mm / Super 16mm can be the best option in terms of quality/ price, especially if there is insufficient budget for the creation of a Master either in 35mm or top quality High Definition formats.  It can also be the perfect format choice when the maximum agility and flexibility are required, with compact equipment, without sacrificing the advantages offered by film as the Master format, with all of the possibilities available through the digital postproduction process.

The following topics will be covered:  film negative and formats (16mm and Super 16mm), 16mm and Super 16mm lenses, 16mm and Super 16mm cameras, (which camera to choose, camera maintenance and general use).  Students will also learn how to prep a camera package (visiting a camera rental house), shoot camera tests, examine lab processes (visiting a local lab), basic telecine and printing, HD and 2K scanning (visiting a postproduction house) and learn to use postproduction tools.  Final conclusion and review of the work-flow and general know-how.
